Chapter by chapter, I'm falling faster and faster !!--------- “Then I guess arguing over opinions is a waste of breath,” she shrugged. Giving up an argument…yet another thing that wasn’t a characteristic of Lily. She wasn’t even surprised at how weird she was acting any more. He already had her confused and acting strangely. It didn’t even bother her. She was actually starting to enjoy his presence. Oh Merlin, if her brothers knew that, they would flip. Especially Albus and when he got mad, he got scary. “I’m not used to seeing you not act like an ass. It was kind of you to check on me. Thank you,” she practically stuttered. She didn’t even know how to react to him. He wasn’t provoking her, but she still didn’t know what to think. Scorpius had her very, very confused.
His laugh made her grin. Good, he had known that she was joking. No one could possibly enjoy the stinging pain of a thorn bush unless they were insane. It had been the most painful thing she had ever experienced. Her entire body had been scratched up for days. “It made me way more careful,” she responded with a nod. “What about you? Any crashes? Or are you Malfoys too perfect to make mistakes?” she teased. It was a jab, but it didn’t sound near as mean as it could have. She wanted to avoid conflict, so she kept it playful. The Gryffindor was beginning to grow oblivious to how comfortable she was getting around the boy. It seemed natural, like they were actually friends. Lily still felt like an idiot when it came to the entire ‘nice outfit’ compliment failure. It was a major relief when he let it go. The last thing she wanted to do was make herself look like some desperate loser. Really, she didn’t even want him to know that she was interested. He would probably just laugh or taunt her about having such a stupid crush. She didn’t want that at all.
Maybe trusting him wouldn’t be that bad of an idea. If he was plotting something, she would be able to sense it. Right now, there was no evil look in his eye or bad vibe coming off of him, so why not? They were growing up. It was quite possible that they were mature enough to forget about their parents’ rivalry. She smiled for a moment before glaring playfully. “Asshole. I should have figured that out sooner,” she growled. The grin spread through her voice, so it was in no way a bitter or serious growl. Her real personality was already starting to show and she didn’t care. She couldn’t see any way harm could come out of this. “Really? I mean, we’re kind of rivals in Quidditch…if I didn’t have a good broom, you would have an advantage over me,” she pointed out. Her head was tilted slightly as she tried to figure this out.
She raised an eyebrow lightly and smiled once more. “Y’know, I won’t be offended if you call me Lily.” The tension she had felt between them was fading faster and faster. Scorpius didn’t even seem like a Malfoy any more. She liked this side of him. As just friend, of course. Or not. Most likely not. Despite the voice in the back of her head that confirmed her feelings for him, she didn’t want to admit it to herself. If she ignored it long enough, maybe it would just go away. That would be the best thing. However, she heard that pesky little voice claim that it wouldn’t be that easy.
“I’m pretty graceful in the air, but when I’m on land, bad things tend to happen,” she laughed gently. That was a very accurate statement. Few people in the universe could claim that they were more accident-prone than the teenager girl. She was a mess. It was a relief, though, that the problem was the broom and not her. When he suggested going to the broom shop, she hesitated. The outgoing, bubbly, loud Lily Potter suddenly felt shy. “Sure, I’m not busy today,” she said, “but having to land might be a little embarrassing…and dangerous.” She glanced at her unreliable broom. It was one thing to crash in front of a single person, but landing on her butt in front of a crowd would be much worse.

Scorpius smirked slightly. Finally, they were done talking about it. He was sick of going back and forth already. He was bored with it. If he wasn’t having a heated argument with someone, then it wasn’t fun and he got bored quick. And his little argument with Lily was getting boring, but it was over now, so he didn’t have to worry about it anymore. His eyebrow rose, but he gave her a smile. “I know it’s hard seeing me nice,” he joked, “but it does happen. And you’re welcome.” At least she finally believed him. He was bothered by the fact that she didn’t believe that he was being sincere.
He nodded. “I can imagine it making you more careful.” If he crashed into a thorn bush, he probably would’ve just stopped flying completely. He looked at her when she asked him if he crashed. “Oh no. Malfoys are way too good to crash and make mistakes. What a silly question.” He grinned to show her he was only kidding. Of course he had made mistakes. He just didn’t like to talk about them. “Well…” He looked away for a moment and ran his fingers through his hair. “I did, sort of…crash through a window at home. Father wasn’t very happy with me.”
That had been one of the stupidest things he had done. “I uh, thought it was open, and when to fly into the family room and land, but apparently mother had closed it and I didn’t notice until the last minute. I landed myself in St. Mungo’s for a couple of days,” he finished with a nervous laugh. “No one actually knows about that…so, mind not saying anything?” he asked, a small blush coming to his cheeks. Other crashes were whatever to him, but this one…really hurt and he didn’t need anyone to see his stupidity.
He ignored her words grinned at her growl. He was intrigued by it, and…it was kind of hot. Hot?! What the hell was he thinking? It wasn’t hot…was it? Maybe a little bit. Not many lions could have the bite of a snake, but she did. Maybe it had to do with her brother being in his house. He was the first one of the family. James and her were both Gryffindors. He wondered how their parents felt about that. When she spoke again, he shook out of his thoughts and looked at her. “Yeah, but that’s not exactly fun…now is it? I like a challenge,” he smirked. “I want to beat you fair game…not just because your broom completely sucks.” That just didn’t seem exciting in his eyes.
“Offended or not…I think it would sound odd,” he laughed, “but I suppose I could call you by your first name. You’re welcome to do the same.” He smiled. He was getting more and more comfortable around her. It was a little odd, but he didn’t mind it. He knew his father was not going to like that he was hanging around Potter’s kid, but for some reason…Scorpius didn’t care. Whatever his father had with his childhood enemy was his problem. Scorpius would make his own friends and own enemies. At times…he did hate having his last name, because of the reputation, but at the same time…he didn’t mind it for the exact same reason. It was odd to think about, but it made sense to him.
“You are good at flying. Maybe you should just stay on your broom forever and not walk anywhere,” he teased. “Then you won’t get hurt.” He never saw her get hurt when she was in the air. He didn’t even see her get hit with bludgers. Now walking…that was a different story. He’d seen her trip over her own feet a couple times while walking by her in the hall. That was pretty funny, but he did feel a little bad for her. When she hesitated, he frowned slightly. He did want to go to the broom store alone and maybe pick out the wrong broom. But when she spoke, a smile appeared back on his lips. He was glad that she’d be able to go. If not, he’d make her go another day. “Don’t worry about it. Just get on mine with me,” he said, mounting his broom. “Get on. I promise not to bite,” he said with a wink.

Chapter by chapter, I'm falling faster and faster !!--------- It still felt a little odd to just drop an argument. She would usually refuse to let it go until the other person gave up and said she was right, whether she really was or wasn’t. That just came with having a stubborn nature. This one, however, was just a waste of her time with Scorpius. She half-expected someone to come along at any moment and interrupt them. There was no way they could continue acting this way if another person was around. Someone might get suspicious, jump to conclusions, and blab to Al or James. “Does it happen very often? I kind of like this side of you,” she smiled, not even realizing that her statement could be taken the wrong way. It wasn’t meant to sound flirty, but it sort of did.
“Yeah, I wanted to give up flying, but my dad talked me into getting back on the broom.” Her first time flying after the accident had been frightening. The girl’s confidence had been severely shaken and it had taken her a while to get back into it. If it wasn’t for her father’s support, there was a good chance that she wouldn’t have even tried. Her mother had been there for her too, but when it came to Quidditch, she was closer to Harry. He had been a seeker for Gryffindor back when he was a student, so he was able to give Lily more specific advice. “I should have known that! I bet your parents would disown you if you dared to mess up!” she chuckled. Her hazel eyes widened. “A window? That’s almost as bad as the bush!”[/color
Lily bit her lip gently as she listened. She couldn’t even imagine how badly it must have hurt. “Bloody hell, Scorpius. You really are a blonde,” she teased before she could stop herself. It was clear that he was embarrassed about it, but he had gotten a good laugh out of her falling on her butt earlier, so she didn’t feel too bad. “That is scary, though.” She nodded and smiled gently. “I won’t tell anyone,” she promised. Her brothers would get a good laugh out of it, but there was no way she would tell them. James would probably go out of his way just to taunt Scorpius. Also, she didn’t like breaking promises. The Slytherin had confided in her. Telling others, especially when it was something that he was obviously very ashamed of, would be cruel.
She arched an eyebrow slightly at his grin. “What?” she asked. “Most people don’t grin at being insulted.” Then again, it hadn’t been a real insult. She still didn’t understand why he was grinning. Wait, why did she even care? It was a stupid thing to obsess like this over. But still, she had been expecting him to react differently. “It certainly wouldn’t be fun for me. Actually, maybe your team would be so busy laughing at me, my team would score enough points to win,” she suggested with a laugh, “But if you want a challenge…we’ve played against each other before. I’d say we’re worthy opponents. If I get a new broom, you’ll have your hands full.” She smirked. “Beat me? Oh please, Malfoy. I’d love to see you try. I could be on one of those ancient Nimbus 2000s and still make you look like a novice!” That was an exaggeration, of course.
A grin spread across her face. “We’ll get used to it,” she said confidently. “And I will. It’s more fun to say ‘Scorpius’ anyway.” She was already adjusting to it. It felt more normal to call him by his first name rather than his last. Lily was still surprised by how quickly they were warming up to each other. All it had taken was both of them lowering their guards and being more open-minded. It was like he was a different person, not the blond-haired Slytherin she had given so many dirty looks to. The thought of how displeased her family would be with this tried to creep into her head, but she forced it out. She was a big girl; she could pick her own friends.
“It would be difficult to sleep on a broom and flying through the castle would be fun, but the headmaster and professors might not be amused,” she joked. Hm, maybe she should try that one. Flying through the corridors could prove to be a good challenge. “It isn’t like I seriously injure myself all the time. My knees just tend to always acquire a few cuts and bruises.” Lily had gotten used to her clumsiness over the years. Tripping was part of her daily life. For what must have been the third or fourth time, she felt color and heat in her cheeks. This blushing thing was ridiculous. “Alright, alright,” she decided that arguing was futile. “Uh huh…bite me and I’ll bite you back even harder.” She lifted one leg over the broom and positioned herself behind him. It had been years since she had been riding on a broom instead of controlling it. With some hesitation, she realized that she would have to hold on somehow…so she lightly wrapped her arms around his middle. The blush grew even redder. She was shy about all of this, but she couldn’t deny that she was secretly enjoying it.
