Took my time, took my chances, went the distance, now I'm back on my feet.

Rune had decided to take a little walk around school, and eventually made his way out to the courtyard. It was one of the nicer day's so it wasn't that strange to just be wearing a pair of black jeans and a blue t-shirt. When it came to air temperature anymore it was hard to tell hot and cold anymore. Probably because he had a lower body temperature now. Way number one to be an incredible dumb ass, believing that the reason someone's skin felt cold was just because they had been standing out in the cold. Really how stupid was he to have believed that one? Then again he'd let that guy part get the best of him. Girlfriend broke it off a couple month's before, it was a hot girl and he was sorta down on his luck, the one time he thinks with the wrong damn head, it's a bloody vampire.

So he had spent the last half of last year sneaking around trying to avoid everyone, and nearly loosing his spot on the quidditch team, trying to avoid biting anyone or anything of the like. Had Rune ever had a problem with vampire's? no, not at all, they were people to... so long as they weren't violent blood sucking fiends. Now he was a vampire, and had to try and hide it cause people would freak the hell out and want him out of school and all. If this was supposed to be irony shouldn't it be someone that hated vampire's getting turned? Than again just another notch to the "what new fucked up thing can happen" list. He was never going to say it could be worse again.

He sat down on a bench and just looked up at the sky that had some clouds starting to form. "No, please, just start a monsoon why don't you." he said aloud, but not really to anyone. It just felt like it was going to be one of those days. Course he had managed to start talking to some of the people he was friends with during the summer when things got back under control. Their was one though he hadn't been able to find, he wasn't sure if that was good or bad though. All summer his ex Samantha had been completely off the radar and he had no idea why. But maybe that was a good thing. After all toward the end of summer before last she had broken off their relationship which Rune took kind of hard, not that he openly showed it too much. But he hadn't really been able to get over her and was still good friends with her. Although, it made her a friend that it was really hard to not picture naked when he was looking at her. Which seeing as she could read his mind, well, that made things interesting to say the least when they were in a relationship. Though, as much as he hoped he could have some insanely far shot of getting back together with her, this whole vampire thing added a whole new thing. All reality Rune knew the chance was basically zero but, well needed something to keep him going, especially because, well his luck with women since consisted of shot down, one night only, or being turned into a vampire. Now that he thought of it, she'd undoubtedly learn he was a vampire since it was something that was on his mind most of the time anymore... and he was terrible at keeping secrets from her anyway, she knew him too well.

Samantha had a long day of classes and was glad it was finally over. She had tossed her book bag into Teddy’s room after everyone had left class and headed back to the great hall. She had been pretty much living in his room since school started. It was like she could be seen with him and it bummed her out. Damn him for being a teacher. But at the same time it was cool that he was, then she could see him every day. She had spent the night there for the past few days and had finally told him everything the night before last. She had been so relieved to get everything off her chest finally. Sure, it had only been a few months, but she still couldn’t stand lying to him about it. She was just lucky that he could be naïve about things sometimes. He had never asked her why she was always cold when he touched her. And since she had a pretty good hold on her thirst, she didn’t have to worry about accidently biting him if he cut himself doing something silly.

She ran her hand through her hair as she combed out some knots. She was going to do it in Teddy’s dorm, but she had completely forgot. She just wanted to go outside for a bit and clear her head of the day. As soon as she stepped into the courtyard, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath of the cool fall air. She loved fall. The colors, the smell, everything. It had to be her favorite season. She glanced around to see if anyone else had come out also, and there wasn’t many people there. Seems Most of them had decided to stay in. All but one on a bench on the other side of the courtyard. Her eyebrow rose slightly and she took another sniff of the air. She thought she smelled something a little odd. There was another vampire around and since there was no one else outside, she could only assume that it was the other person sitting out here.

To her knowledge, she was the only vampire at the school. She hadn’t noticed any of the others, but then again, this was her first year as a vampire. She decided to investigate and see who it was. As she walked closer to see who it was, her eyes widened. It was Rune. It wasn’t like she hated the boy. He was her ex, but they were still friends. She hadn’t seen him in a while. It wasn’t that she was avoiding him, she was just wrapped up in Teddy, that she didn’t really see anyone. If she wasn’t with him, she was doing school work. She didn’t have much of a social life. But it was by choice. She couldn’t believe that he was a vampire. She couldn’t help but wonder how it happened. She wasn’t about to just walk up to him and ask after not seeing him for a while. That wasn’t a very polite way to start a conversation. Besides, maybe he wouldn’t want to talk about it. She continued to walk over to him anyway. Smiling, she sat down next to him. “Hi Rune,” she started. “Long time no see.” She wasn’t sure how this was going to go, but it was worth a shot.

Rune was starting to lose himself in thought before he felt someone sit next to him, and then an all so familiar voice said "Hi Rune." As she said it had been a while Rune turned his head and saw it really was her. Though he couldn't hide the surprised look on his face. He was starting to wonder if maybe he was asleep and dreaming... or in a delusional coma, he had hit his head recently. Honestly after the way he had avoided her and everyone else the end of last school year he thought he had pushed her away. It took a few second's to recover but he finally did and managed a smile as he said "Hi Sam, it has been a while." Rune had to hold back the urge to hug her, among other's. She was dating another guy so he had a feeling something like that or kissing might not be well received.

Though, that was when he sensed something... different about her. Rune had an uncanny knack for things like that in general but, it had gotten a lot stronger since becoming a vampire. But he couldn't place the change at first. But then he realized the only other time he felt this was around Eclair. Had Sam become a vampire too? It would explain why no one seemed to know where she was this summer. "Things have been pretty crazy for me for a while, I feel bad we haven't spoken in so long." he said, turning his body to face her a bit more as he added, "Your looking well, and as beautiful as ever." Though he mentally hit himself for adding the last part at the very end. He had wanted to just compliment her looking well... not come off as some puppy begging for it's master's affection. Though, it could have been him over reacting. Maybe he just tried too hard to not make things awkward. Then again, he was the one still crushing on her, she had a new boyfriend.

Samantha watched him curiously when he looked at her with a surprised look. Was he not in the mood to see her? When he recovered, she smiled, and tossed some hair over her shoulder. She was glad that he spoke back to her. Of course, she wouldn’t blame him for not wanting to talk to her. She did break up with him. She wouldn’t want to talk to her. But she was glad. She nodded in agreement. She had been so busy with school, and her drama over the summer, that she hadn’t talked to him. She did feel bad.

She kicked her shoe against the ground while there was a moment of silent between them. There was never a moment of awkward silence between them before. She looked back over at him when he spoke again and gave him a small nod. She knew the feeling. It had been pretty hectic for her, she could only imagine what it would be like for him. “I felt bad also,” she admitted. She wasn’t about to lie to him about that. She never really lied to anyone about anything. Well, except to Ted, about her vampire thing. But he knew about that know, so It didn’t matter anymore. “Things were pretty crazy for me also,” she said with a small laugh. Even with being what she was, she always tried to make an upside to it.

She smiled at his compliment, but she could tell that he wasn’t very happy with himself for saying it. “Why thank you,” she said. “You’re not looking too bad yourself,” she replied, playfully nudging him with her shoulder. He always looked good. She could remember all the girls that were jealous of them dating. Sam liked looks, but she preferred intelligence. Not that Rune didn’t have both, she just wasn’t interested anymore. It happens.

It was nice to hear her say she felt bad as well about them not talking. She was never one for lying to his knowledge. She was smart, pretty, honest. She really did seem like a one in a million catch. And he lost her to lack of interest. Rune admitted he had an ego when it came to that. Girl's were jealous of her, guys were jealous of him. What happened to all those jealous girl's anyway? Either way Sam having "lost interest" was just a massive blow to his ego. Probably well deserved but still.

He then listened as she said things had been crazy for her too, before thanking him and giving him a playful nudge as she said he wasn't looking bad. "I don't suppose this means your single again." he said with a smile. It was obvious he knew better. Also obvious how bad his poker face when it came to how he felt. He really did love her and he was constantly torn between being happy she was happy and being jealous. Plus when she broke things off, people noticed, and the "he must have sex with his sister" rumor mill kicked back into high gear. He didn't realize his hand closest to her had moved to her leg, not in any inappropriate way or anything, he just did. Old habits really did die hard. "So how was your summer?" he asked before they got to another awkward silence. He really wanted to avoid having another one. He didn't want them having broken up to ruin any other kind of relationship they might have.

Sam played with a bit of hair as she sat there. She hated the weird awkwardness that had happened between them after their relationship ended. That and all the stupid rumors that had spread about Rune. She hated the ignorance of most of the students in this school. They couldn’t just not pay attention to other peoples’ lame rumors. She had always rolled her eyes at a lot of the things that she heard. Whether it was actually by someone’s mouth, or she read someone’s thoughts. Some of the things that people came up with were horrible. She understood it coming from the Slytherins, but when it came from the other houses…it just didn’t make sense. She was glad she was too busy with school work to waste her time pretending to be interested in everything.

She laughed at his question and shook her head. “No, it doesn’t,” she said, brushing some hair back, that was blown around by a breeze. She wasn’t exactly completely aware of it, but she had a small inkling that Rune still had feelings for her. She was a bit glad that she hadn’t seen him for a while, it would’ve just made it harder for him. But she did enjoy his company from time to time, so she was going to end it now. She was still going to talk to him and hang out. Sure, it may being to hurt him more, but if and when it did, she would distance herself from him just enough to make it better. She wasn’t about to break up with Teddy to go back out with him. She was in love with Teddy now, and just had a school girl crush on Rune back then. It was harder to get over love, than a crush.

Her eyes widened when he questioned about her summer. She was a bit caught off guard by it really. “Oh, uhm…” She frowned and looked away from Rune, her eyes moving over the empty courtyard and just anywhere else but him. She already told the one person that it really matter to. “It was…fine. How was yours?” she asked. She just wanted the spotlight off of her. Even if it was just the two of them, she didn’t want to relive what happened. She wasn’t dating him, so she didn’t technically have to tell him what happened, or what she was. But at the same time, she knew what he was, and she was sure that he could probably tell that she was the same. Well. He knew without her telling him. So that made things a bit easier, but she still wasn’t going to tell him what happened. She was just glad that he wasn’t the one that could read minds.

Rune got the answer he expected so just laughed with it. He couldn't tell what was worse really, not seeing her at all, or sitting here talking to her. Why did everything in his life have to be so complex, so gray scaled it was almost impossible to discern things. Right, wrong, appropriate, inappropriate, everything just felt so skewed and separated from others and now this. Now throw in he was actually a hypocrite, and had become something he hated. He always made comments about people not being able to get over it and all.... now he was one of them, as Raven so vehemently pointed out every chance she got.

Though, when she looked away and all, Rune knew what she was doing. His hand slipped off her leg to the bench as he let out a sigh and shook his head. Did she really think that he wasn't going to realize that was a blatant dodge. Even if he didn't know her so well, he probably could of picked up on it. "fairly boring for the most part." Rune replied. Aside from the vampire that turned him being his moms new girlfriend and getting adjusted to being a vampire, that was fairly true. "You know... I told you a while back if you didn't want to talk about something, just tell me you don't want to talk about it." Rune said, looking down at the courtyard ground. "Circumstances may have changed, but that still hold's true." It was times like this that a nagging thought from the back of his head crept forward. The idea that while it had meant everything to him even while they dated it had meant nothing to her. He didn't believe it, he didn't think she was capable in the least of such an act, but thoughts like crept into his head when he was down. To be honest though, what did he really have going for him at this point?

When Rune laughed, Sam relaxed a bit. She knew they both were still getting over some of the awkwardness that happened every now and then. Even though it had been a year since the break up, it was still hard. More for Rune than her, but still. She knew it was harder on him when she ended it. Even if he didn’t show any feelings at that moment, she knew. She tucked some hair behind her ear and glanced down at his hand when he moved it. She didn’t even notice that it was there when he placed it down. She had always been used to someone’s hand being there, whether it was her own, Ted’s, or Rune’s when they were dating.

She knew he could tell she was dodging the question. She wasn’t about to tell him what had happened. Or...maybe she could. He had been turned too, so he could understand what she had gone through. Her thoughts were all a jumble when he spoke of his summer and then what he had said to her when they were dating. She gave him a nod, so she knew that she heard him and ran her fingers through her hair as she glanced over at him. There was a small part of her that wanted to tell him what happened.

She sighed. “I know. I’m sorry, Rune.” She rested her hands on the bench and stretched her legs out in front of her, crossing her ankles. “It’s just not exactly something I was pleased about,” she explained with a shrug. Her being naïve didn’t help her in the moment either that day. She may be brilliant when it came to a lot of things, but when she was out with her muggle friends, she was just a simple minded muggle. Sure, she should’ve been a little more alert, but it was hard when it was a hot guy and you couldn’t control yourself.

Rune looked over as she stretched her legs out after she said she was sorry and that it was something she wasn't pleased about. "No, I'm sorry. I... guess I'm still bad at being stuck in the past." Rune replied. If it had been that year back he never would have said a word about it. A dodge like that meant it was pretty bad and he should know better.

"If I had to take a guess, we've both had days that we were less then pleased with." he added. Though it was at that point he caught a scent on the air, probably from the first or second floor off the ground. Something, or rather someone smelled really good to him. Definitely female, probably 6th or 7th year. Runes fangs extended somewhat but stopped as he tightened his grip on the bench. He turned his head back away from the direction of the smell and tried to just focus on the ground and ignore it. When it came to himself and his emotions and all Rune was all about self control. The one real exception to that was sex but that was different in his opinion. He could feel his control at times slipping and it annoyed him to no end.

He started taking somewhat deeper breaths, but, well, his attempts at hiding what had just happened were pretty bad. Maybe because in the back of his mind he knew she was a vampire too, maybe it was always this bad and, well everyone around here was just that dumb. If he had had to choose one he would have gone with the back of his mind concept, but not ruled out the other. Teenager and vampire really didn't seem to mix. "Sorry, Raven put a jinx on me." he said as he got himself somewhat composed. Rune still had no conscious notion Sam was a vampire, so he was falling back on one of his more believable excuses.

Sam looked at him with concern on her face and gave him a small smile. “It’s fine,” she said, placing her hand on his arm. She didn’t want him to feel that bad. It was bad enough he probably tortured himself with thoughts of them in the past, she couldn’t imagine what he was thinking now. Well she did, but she wasn’t about to go looking. She saved that for people she wasn’t close with. She wasn’t an asshole like that. That’s why she never knew what Teddy was thinking, unless she wanted to play with him. Then that was a different story.

When he spoke again, what he said made her think. She already had a feeling that her thoughts about him were right. Her new thoughts were pretty much confirmed when he smelled something in the air. She took a small breath, and let it out calmly. Yup, there was something there that he caught on to. Some girl. Most likely a really pretty one with nice smelling perfume. That’s how it typically was for the boys. Thankfully Sam had gotten quick control over all that or she’d be in a lot of trouble. Not only with the headmaster, but with Teddy as well. She smirked slightly when she noticed his fangs poking out a bit.

She kept her eyes on him, and watched as he calmed himself down. If he was trying to hide it, he wasn’t doing a very good job of it. Then again…he was never really good at hiding anything, from her at least. She wasn’t sure about anyone else. She laughed when he gave her some poor excuse for what had just happened to him and turned her body to face him as she crossed her arms across her chest. “Uh huh, a jinx,” she said, sarcastically. Her tone told him that she didn’t believe him at all. She wasn’t stupid. Even if she wasn’t a vampire, and couldn’t sense him like she did, she would’ve known something else was up.

“So, tell me what happened,” she said, grinning. “Who bit you and how did it happen?” If he spilled what happened to him, then there was a bigger chance that she would do the same. “You know I could just read your mind and find out, but that’s no fun, now is it?” She figured that would get him to tell her. She really didn’t want to have to sift through his memories and find that one. That…and it didn’t seem fair to him, since he wouldn’t be able to do it back to her. She wanted to keep it fair.
