you got it, you got it, some kind of magic`` hypnotic, hypnotic, you're leaving me breathless ``
----------------------------
The lake was so…peaceful. Birds were chirping, there was a nice light breeze, and it was everything that a September day should be. Things weren’t as calm in Lily Potter’s mind. She had received an owl at breakfast from a certain Scorpius Malfoy requesting to meet her by the lake around noon. Typical girls would probably just smirk and be there a few minutes past the given time. Not this one. The Gryffindor had been in front of her mirror all morning. She had spent half an hour alone of her hair. This wasn’t the kind of thing she could just throw it up in a ponytail for. Though she wasn’t sure, Lily had a gut feeling that Scorpius was planning something. He hadn’t bought her a new broom just to be nice. She had caught him looking at her in a way that, well, let’s just say that it wasn’t how you would expect a Malfoy to look at a Potter. She should have been disgusted. Not intrigued. It was wrong for her to feel this way. Or at least…wasn’t it?
She had seen a different side of him the day he got her a broom. That wasn’t just because he had bought her her dream one. He had been so, well, sweet. There was no other way for her to put it. It wasn’t the gift that had won her over. It was his ability to make her laugh and everything about this nicer side. He had won her over, and it was ridiculous how often he was on her mind these days. She would light up every time she saw him in the hall. Whenever they ran into each other at the Quidditch pitch, it was impossible to not smile. Not only was his personality great, but his looks…oh, his looks. He was the cutest boy in all of Hogwarts. Those eyes, that body, that smirk. There was no question as to why he was popular. The Slytherin was the closest thing to perfect she had ever set her eyes on.
It had taken two long hours of setting out possible outfits, styling and re-styling hair, going for the entire ‘natural but pretty’ makeup look, and giving herself pep talks that everything would be fine and that she couldn’t chicken out, but she had finally walked out into the sunshine. It was exactly noon when she reached the lake. So much for being fashionably late. She sat down in the grass next to a tree and rested her back against its thick trunk. The light, black sweater she had decided on was perfect for this weather, plus it looked good with the skinny jeans she was wearing. For someone who wasn’t an expert and fashion, she thought she had done pretty well. But even with a good outfit and everything else she had done in preparation for this, the butterflies in her stomach were going crazy.
It was hardly a minute past noon and she was already starting to freak out. What if this was all some joke and he wasn’t really going to show up? This could very easily be a mean prank. Scorpius and all of his friends could be hidden and watching her, getting a good laugh out of Lily Potter actually falling for such a cruel set up. She pulled her knees up to her chest and decided that she was going to wait. It would be terrible if he really was coming and she wasn’t there. “Please show up,” she whispered, scanning her surroundings with uneasy eyes, “Please.”

Scorpius was definitely in a fantastic mood today. No one in his house could figure out why, and that was good. They didn’t need to know why at all. Especially since it had to do with a certain Gryffindor. He had gotten closer to the girl without anyone knowing and they had been getting along rather well. Who would’ve thought? A Potter and a Malfoy getting along so well. He had even gotten her a new broom, because he felt bad that her’s had gone haywire. He never really thought he’d feel so comfortable around her, but there was something about her. He had always been told to act a certain way while he was at school, so he wouldn’t taint the Malfoy name. Oh, if his father only knew what was going on in his head about this particular lion.
Every time he thought of her, he’d get butterflies in his stomach. He never felt like that about someone before. This strong at least. He always looked forward to seeing her in the halls and bumping into her. Usually he’d do it on purpose, just so he could see her. They did keep up appearances in public though. They had both agreed on it. They weren’t sure where they were going with anything and didn’t need the talk around the school. Neither of their parents needed to hear about anything just yet. He wasn’t even sure if he wanted to tell his father. Scorpius continued to fly around with the rest of the quidditch team for practice. He had sent a letter to Lily that morning asking to meet him by the lake. He had been thinking about actually asking her out on a date for some time, but couldn’t get a chance to because they had both been caught up with classes and practice.
But finally, they both had a free afternoon; he just had practice in the morning. When it was over, he landed and headed into the showers. He wasn’t going to meet her all gross and sweaty. Wrapping a towel around his waist, he tossed his practice gear into his locker and pulled his clothes on. When he glanced at the clock, his eyes widened. It was going on twelve fifteen. He was never usually late to anything…even a secret rendezvous. He quickly ran the towel through his wet hair, tossed it aside and grabbed his broom. He wasn’t about to be any later than he already was. Running back onto the field, he kicked off the ground and flew towards the lake. He looked down as he got closer, and saw Lily looking around. He frowned slightly. He never liked being late. It was frowned upon in his family. Even fashionably late was bad.
He flew around to the other side of the tree and landed. Making his way around it, he rested his broom against the trunk and walked over to Lily, sitting beside her. “I’m so sorry I’m late,” he said, apologetically, “practice ran longer than I hoped and I lost track of time.” He hoped he believed her. It wasn’t like he was about to pull a fast one on her. The house teams usually know when the others were practicing. He ran his fingers through his hair and smiled as he gave her a playful nudge. “I’m glad you came though.”

you got it, you got it, some kind of magic`` hypnotic, hypnotic, you're leaving me breathless ``
----------------------------
Lily was getting nervous. It felt like hours had passed, though it had only been ten or so minutes. Would he really have pulled a cruel prank like this? She just couldn’t believe that. They had gotten close and formed something between them, a bond that she had never known before. He wouldn’t leave her sitting there like an idiot. What if it wasn’t him? Perhaps someone had found out about her and Scorpius’ newfound friendship and decided to have fun with it. It was very possible that someone else had sent that note. It wasn’t like she was that savvy about his handwriting. She was growing more and more paranoid about why he was late. Something in the back of her mind assured her that she was freaking out for no reason, but it was hard to accept that.
Her mind started to wander. What would her brothers do if they knew about this? What would her father do? It was something that she thought about quite a bit, but tried to ignore. There wasn’t even anything really going on between them yet. They were just friends. This, however, seemed like it was going to change. Lily wasn’t the smartest girl when it came to boys, but she could tell that there was some spark between her and the Slytherin. She was comfortable around him and he seemed to be the same way with her. It scared her that she might have been totally wrong. She took a deep breath, looking around once more. The girl couldn’t take it any longer. He either needed to show up and she had to drag herself away from the shade of the tree.
Then, she saw a broom coming toward her. The figure on it had blonde hair that she would recognize anywhere. Her lips spread into a relieved grin. She felt so stupid now for being so quick to panic. Her heart sped up as he grew closer. He looked so…attractive on that broom. A blush flooded her cheeks. She didn’t know why, but it made her feel so silly to internally swoon over him. Not that anyone would be able to blame her for doing it. He was everything a girl could ask for. Maybe the Malfoy thing would be a turn off for some, especially Gryffindors, but it didn’t mean anything any more. He wasn’t his father. Scorpius was sweet and a completely different person. It wasn’t fair to automatically consider him a younger Draco Malfoy.
She was smiling casually by the time he landed. “Hey there. Nice of you to show up!” she teased, playfully narrowing her eyes at him. Of course she wasn’t really mad. She was much too happy for that, plus she figured that he had a good excuse as to why he was late. “Oh! I should’ve figured…I forgot that Slytherin had the pitch today,” she nodded, feeling like an even bigger idiot for forgetting about that. It wasn’t unusual for practices to run late, especially since he had probably taken a shower before leaving the locker room. That was a perfectly acceptable excuse. “And don’t worry about it,” she assured him with a wink. He had her grinning again with the nudge. She nudged him back and rested her head against his shoulder. “Yeah, it was a little difficult to fit into my schedule. I mean, I pushed aside the homework I wasn’t going to do in the first place, just for you!” It was so easy to be playful and teasing and, well, herself around him. “So,” she asked with a smirk, “Any particular reason you dragged me away from my studies to meet you out here today?”

Scorpius stuck his tongue out at her when she narrowed her eyes and teased him about being late. It wasn’t like he was exactly planning on being late. He was pissed at himself for not keeping better track of the time. If he hadn’t been worried about busting the new watch he had gotten, he would’ve bailed on practice earlier than he did. Quidditch was pretty damn important to him, but wanting to get this one question out of the way was pretty important to him too. He was glad that she had believed what he had told her. He knew she would’ve known. Even still, he had cared about the red-head too much to even try and lie to her. He smiled when she told him not to worry about it. He was glad that she was so understanding. He didn’t know what he’d do if he was like those girls that would freak out just because a guy was a few minutes late to meeting them. He hated those girls and stayed far away from them as often as possible.
He rolled his eyes and laughed as she stated that she had to squeeze him into her schedule. “Well I’m glad that you were able to find some time for me then. It’s greatly appreciated, Potter,” he said with a smirk. “I usually just make someone else do my work for me. Then I don’t really have to worry about it,” he said simply. He never really liked doing his work to begin with and being a Malfoy meant being able to scare and control other students into getting what he wanted. He did like that about his surname. Being who he was, was something that he would not change at all. He glanced at her and rose his eyebrow at her question. “There has to be a reason for me to want to hang out with you now?” he asked, with mock hurt in his voice. “That’s harsh, Lil.” He frowned slightly and looked away, pretending to be hurt. It didn’t last very long though. He couldn’t even pretend to be mad at her.
He cracked and looked back at her with a smile. “Alright…so there is actually a reason, but I did want to hang out with you anyway.” He ran his hand through his hair and let out a breath. He never usually had to actually ask girls out. It usually just sort of happened, but he didn’t want that to happen with Lily. He was going to try and do this right. “I was actually going to see if you wanted to go on a real date,” he said after a moment. He knew that it was going to be a risk, since the place he had in mind was in Hogsmeade and there was going to be that chance that other students were going to be there. Unless they went in the middle of the week, but he’d just have to wait until Lily answered.
