It was 2 a.m. and way to early for anyone to be alive. Eris had woken up about fifty times and couldn't make her mind relax enough to achieve that deep state of sleep that usually came so easily. Her mind was racing a million miles a minute. Random thoughts passed through her head. Everything from what shoes she would wear in a few hours to her homework, to childhood memories, as well as the many other annoying questions and thoughts. It was starting to be a real irritation.
She decided that laying in bed was a waste of time and only made her more anxious for some reason. So, the Slytherin quietly climbed out of bed, trying not to disturb the other girls in the dormitory. She then walked over to the foot of her bed where her trunk rested and pulled out her favorite fluffy blanket and a book. She had been just about to close the lid when it slipped from her grip and landed with a thud back in place. Eris froze when she heard one of the other seventh years stir. She didn't want to wake any of them and have to deal with cranky roomates. It was far too early for that. Eris released the breath she'd been holding in when she saw a girl roll over and go still. Eris crossed the room in slippered feet quietly. She pulled the door open slowly and disappeared into the hallway.
The common room was deserted but she had expected as much. Eris had been sort of hoping another soul would be suffering from insomnia as well. Being alone was not something she enjoyed very much. She made her way over to one of the cozy leather armchairs in front of the fireplace. These were scattered in random groups all over the large room, green hued room, along with small couches and footrests. The posh and expensive furnishings gave off the air of old money. Slytherin children wouldn't expect any less and Eris was sure she wouldn't have felt comfortable in any of the other houses. A picture of cheap knick-knacks and poorly chosen furniture crossed her mind. Eris sat down gently and covered herself with her blanket as she opened up the book she had grabbed. Maybe a little bit of reading would relax her enough to let her slip back into a peacful sleep. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS: complete TAGGED: open WORDS: lots! Scorpius had spent the rest of the afternoon with Lily and it was fantastic. They didn’t really do much. It was the weekend, so he flew them to a part of England where he knew that no one there would know who they were. They were spending time together, but anyone that knew their families couldn’t see them together. They didn’t want anyone to find out anything yet. Scorpius knew he was going to have to come clean to someone about it at some point. He just knew it couldn’t be his father yet. He didn’t even want to think about what his father, of all people, would say about his current feelings. Never mind the fact that she’s a Gryffindor, he could possibly get passed that. It was more the fact that she was a Potter. Their parents didn’t really get along with each other, never mind their grandparents. It had always been like that between the Malfoys and the Potters. He wasn’t sure if he even really wanted to tell him.
He had walked Lily back up to her tower, being a prefect had its perks. He could wander the halls as late as he wanted and he wouldn’t get in trouble for it. As he reached the last step of the towers, he glanced at his watch. It was almost two in the morning, but he wasn’t even that tired. He knew he should, since he spent the day just hanging out with Lily, but they didn’t really do too much, other than walk around the city they landed it for a few hours. That wasn’t the date that he had asked her out on, but he didn’t want to just see her for a few minutes and then go back into the castle. He knew she didn’t want to do her homework, and he wasn’t about to do his. So neither of them had anything to do for the rest of the day. He thought spending it away from the castle would be a fun thing to do.
So he ran his fingers through his hair and headed back towards the dungeons. This was when he wished he had his broom still. He wasn’t tired, but he didn’t want to talk anymore. They had returned back to the Quidditch pitch so he could put his broom away and walked back to the castle together. He knew the other prefects would be out and he didn’t want her getting in trouble with any of them, so he was sure to walk her back to her house. He was pretty sure that it was the prefects of Slytherin and Hufflepuff that had patrolling tonight, so he didn’t want her to be seen by either of them.
As he reached the entrance to the Slytherin house, he smiled slightly. Giving the password, he moved as the portrait opened, and glanced around as he went in. He figured it’d be pretty empty by now. Slytherins always went to bed at a decent hour (unless they were partying for something) because they had to get their beauty sleep. So he wasn’t surprised at all at how empty it was. He wasn’t ready to go to bed yet, so he made his way over to a vacant couch that was facing the fireplace. It had been out for a while, but it wasn’t much of a problem. He just wanted to sit for a bit before he had to trudge the stairs to his dorm room. As he walked by one of the chairs, he was a bit surprised to see someone sitting there. He figured everyone would be out. He glanced over to see who it was and smirked as he fell onto the couch. “Surprise to see you still up Eris,” he said, resting his arms behind his head.

She flicked her bright eyes away from her book for a moment, trying to catch a glimpse of who her fellow insomniac was. The glint of a familiar head of blond hair caught her eyes and surprised her. Scorpius had vanished when the day began and Eris had spent hours trying to find out where exactly he had gone. No one was able to give her an answer and eventually she had given up, giving her full attention to a handsome housemate to take her mind off of how irritated her cousin had left her.
Lately, Scorpius had been sneaking off or disappearing for hours at a time, reuturning casually as if he had been there the whole time. Eris was starting to become quite annoyed at his nonchalance and the fact that he kept dodging her questions about his whereabouts. Scorp was very good at finding an excuse to change the subject and avoid Eris' line of questioning.
Feeling her annoyance returning as she watched him for a moment, Eris returned her eyes to her book, thinking her cousin would just continue on up to his dorm. There was definitely a part of her that wanted him to see her though. There wasn't anyone else around to help him deflect the topic so Eris planned on questioning him mercilessly until he finally caved and told her everything she wanted to know. They had never kept any secrets from each other, sharing everything since they were very young. The fact that he was hiding something from her drove her crazy.
The part of her that wanted Scorpius to sit down felt triumphant when he settled himself on the couch across from her. Raising one eyebrow slightly, Eris took her eyes away from her book again and placed them on Scorpius'. "You know, it isn't polite to just up and vanish on your favorite cousin without any sort of explanations at all, right?" Eris couldn't stay angry with Scorpius for very long but it was just enough time to get some of her annoyance out. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS: complete TAGGED: Scorpius WORDS: lots! Scorpius wasn’t really too surprised to see his cousin up late. He knew sometimes her head whizzed of so many things that she couldn’t sleep. Sometimes she had even waken him up whenever one stayed over the other’s house. He couldn’t stand it, but she was his favorite cousin and best friend, so he endured it for her. He also knew that she would’ve noticed him sneaking off. The two were practically joined at the hip all the time, some moronic students had thought they were together. Ignorance. Just because you’re close with a family member, doesn’t mean there’s more underneath. He had beaten the thought out of a few and none had thought it since. Thank Merlin. It was true…he knew that she was going to be questioning him. She had been trying every time he’d return to the common room or show up late to meals, but he’d always find a way to change the subject or worm his way around the question. He had learned from the best, his father. He was always good at avoiding questions.
But He knew with the common room being deserted now, it was going to be a bit harder for him to avoid them. No doubt that he’d be able to actually do it. He had avoided them before when the two were alone together, but at the same time, he didn’t like keeping a secret from her. They told each other everything. He was sure they both knew more about the other than their parents did. Being this close though is just the result of your father’s being best friends, and your mother’s being sisters. Even though Astoria really isn’t his mother…but still. He glanced over at her just as she placed her eyes on his and just smirked. He knew there was a question brewing behind those eyes of hers, and sure enough she tossed it out. His smirk grew slightly and just closed his eyes. “Eris, you know I had quidditch practice today,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. It wasn’t a lie. He really did. Then he just up and left the grounds with Lily afterwards.
It wasn’t the first time he’d done it either. They left the day that he had gotten her the new broom from his favorite shop. “Besides, why would I give you an explination,” he said, slipping his hand into his pocket, “when maybe I was out getting you a gift?” He opened his eyes again and tossed a small black box to her. He hadn’t gotten a chance to get her a gift for her birthday and was glad that he decided to go out with Lily today. She had helped him find the perfect gift for her. It was a sterling silver necklace with a pink rose pendent. He knew it was her favorite, and wanted to get her something nice to begin with. It was from a muggle jewelry store, but she didn’t need to know that. He had charmed it to open during the day and close up as the sun went down. He knew that’d be a good distraction for a while as well.
